My mission as an artist is to embolden children’s disruptive imaginations. We are on a trajectory of increased disconnection from each other, from nature, and from our innate identities, and my goal is to help re-enchant this world to make it hospitable for restoring these connections. I’ve been using interactive sculpture made from accessible materials—namely cardboard masks and puppets—to explore how humor, play, identity, and embodied practice can transcend boundaries and connect people in healing. This work is guided by Lewis Hyde’s exploration of trickster mythology, those figures who disturb established categories and slip the traps of power and thereby open the road to possible new worlds. It is also informed by Clarissa Pinkola Estes’s work on the Wild Self and being in one’s body with certainty and pride. And it is inspired by Paul Klee’s puppets as a dialogue between generations. The result is a collection of objects on the border line between artworks and toys: for fun, for parties, for weddings, for kids, for grownups, for tapping into spirit animal charm with hilarity and delight!
